The resurrection is central to the Christian faith, and it shapes our attitudes and responses at the time of death.  Death brings loss, sorrow, and grief; yet we affirm with tears and joy the hope of the gospel.  The community of faith bears with one another and offers a ministry of love and hope to all who grieve.

Pre-planning

Planning is difficult under emotional stress.  People of faith are encouraged to discuss the options of burial, cremation or donation for medical purposes. These plans should provide for simple arrangements which bear witness to the resurrection and hope central to the community of faith.

Pastoral Counseling

The minister should be contacted immediately when a death occurs.  The minister will be able to provide pastoral counseling to the family and be present to plan and prepare for the funeral service.

The Funeral Service

At the time of death, the community of faith gathers to witness to their faith in the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. The funeral is a service of worship to give thanks for the life of a loved one, and our sorrow is comforted by the Lord who made heaven and earth. The minister will respond to the family's desire to invite other clergy to participate in the service and other requests regarding the service.

At the Worship Service, it is appropriate to sing hymns, psalms, spirituals or spiritual songs which affirm God's power over death, a belief in the resurrection to life everlasting and the assurance of the communion of the saints. The organist and minister will provide guidance for the selection of music.
The family usually arranges to receive those wishing to pay their respects at the funeral home.  A funeral service will be held within a few days followed by interment at the cemetery.  The minister will assist you when circumstances require a memorial service, interment of cremains, or a service at an alternative location.
